One significant change in Georgia family law pertains to child support guidelines. As of recent updates, the Georgia Child Support Guidelines have been revised to provide clearer formulas and better align with the actual needs of children. These changes take into account various factors, such as the number of children, the income of both parents, and the time spent with each parent, ensuring a more equitable distribution of financial responsibility. Another notable change involves modifications to custody and visitation laws. Georgia now emphasizes shared custody arrangements, where both parents are encouraged to remain actively involved in their children's lives. Courts are now more likely to grant joint legal and physical custody, except in situations where one parent’s actions may pose a risk to the child’s well-being.
